Paketo Builders

These images, called builders, are distributed by the Paketo Buildpacks project and contain internal operating system images (see the below sections for differences), the lifecycle executables for your application, and a collection of Paketo Buildpacks. Builders can be used to build your apps using the https://github.com/buildpack/pack or other platforms that support Cloud Native Buildpacks.

The Paketo Buildpacks project distributes the following Builders:

• paketobuildpacks/builder:base → A minimal image based on Ubuntu 18.04, with the addition of a few packages (called https://github.com/buildpack/spec/blob/master/platform.md#mixins) - notably, git and build-essentials
• paketobuildpacks/builder:full → An image based on Ubuntu 18.04 supplemented with https://github.com/paketo-buildpacks/stacks/tree/main/packages/full
• paketobuildpacks/builder:tiny → A minimal build image (same as base), with a tiny, distroless-like run image based on Ubuntu 18.04

pack inspect-builder paketobuildpacks/builder:<tag>

Using specific versions of a builder

Paketo builders are published with a version tag.
Base → paketobuildpacks/builder:<VERSION>-base
Full → paketobuildpacks/builder:<VERSION>-full
Tiny → paketobuildpacks/builder:<VERSION>-tiny
