This repository provides a custom Kasm Workspaces image for Obsidian, the powerful knowledge base and note-taking application. This setup allows you to run Obsidian directly within your Kasm Workspaces environment, offering a dedicated and isolated desktop experience for your markdown notes.

Installation and Usage

The easiest way to add the Obsidian Workspace to your Kasm Workspaces deployment is via the Kasm Registry.

1. Add the Kasm Registry: Navigate to your Kasm Workspaces user interface. Go to Workspaces -> Registries. Click on "Add Registry" and provide the following URL:

2. Install the Obsidian Workspace: Once the registry is added, go to Workspaces -> Workspaces. Click "Add Workspace". You should now see the "Obsidian Desktop" workspace from the "Zapfmeister Registry". Click "Install" to add it to your Kasm Workspaces.

3. Launch Obsidian: After successful installation, you should see "Obsidian" as an available application in your Kasm Workspaces user portal. Launch it to start using your pre-configured Obsidian environment.

Manual Installation (for advanced users or testing)

For users who prefer to manage their workspaces manually:

1. Clone this repository:

2. Locate the Workspace JSON: The workspace.json file for Obsidian is located at: kasm-registry/workspaces/Obsidian/workspace.json

3. Deploy Manually: Copy this workspace.json file to your Kasm Workspaces deployment's workspaces directory (e.g., /opt/kasm/current/conf/workspaces/ on your Kasm server). Ensure the Docker image zapfmeister/obsidian:latest (or a specific version tag) is available to your Kasm deployment. The image is publicly available on Docker Hub.

Persistent Storage for your Vaults

This image is configured to work well with Kasm's persistent storage. If you enable persistence for your Obsidian workspace in Kasm, your Obsidian vaults, plugins, and settings will be saved across sessions.

Image Availability and Build Process

The Docker image for this Obsidian Kasm Workspace is automatically built and maintained.

• Build Automation: Our GitHub Actions workflow automatically checks for new Obsidian releases, builds the Docker image (zapfmeister/obsidian), and pushes it to Docker Hub.
• Automatic Pushes: New images are pushed whenever the underlying Dockerfile.obsidian or associated configuration files are updated, or on a daily schedule to ensure you always have the latest stable Obsidian version.
• Platform: The image is built for linux/amd64 architecture.
